My kittens are getting spayed. When to fast & separate them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have three kittens that are almost 4 months old and weigh 3 to 4 pounds. I am getting them spayed and neutered in 3 days. I was wondering if I take away all food at midnight, and then feed them a tablespoon of wet food in the morning? The vet said to feed them a tablespoon of wet food at 6:00 in the morning, but I’m not sure if I take away their dry food at midnight. Also, do I have to keep them in separate rooms after the surgery?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your kittens. Yes, I would pick up their dry food late the night before surgery to allow them a short fasting period. Be sure to provide plenty of water though. It will be a good idea to keep them separate after surgery so they can rest. They will rebound quickly, but they do not need for their bodies to heal. Playing with each other could delay that from happening. I hope this information helps!
