Can male dog humping cause bruising on a spayed female chihuahua?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | 2 years and 10 months old | 6 lbs

I just noticed this morning that my 6 lb Female Chihuahua's vagina looks bruised. She was spayed last year about 11 months ago. I just moved in with my daughter and she has a Male longhair Chihuahua and I spotted him trying to hump her. Is it possible that he entered her and caused the bruising?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Dayna. First, check the rest of her body including her gums for any other signs of bruising. Bruising can indicate a bleeding disorder. This is very serious and she would need to be seen right away. Watch to see if she is licking excessively or if she is urinating more frequently as these are signs of a urinary tract infection. If these are not the case, then trauma is a possibility. Even spayed and neutered dogs will hump each other, but there is usually no trauma involved. However, I have seen cases of what you have described. I would recommend keeping the dogs separate unless they can be fully supervised. I hope this information helps!
