My dog has kidney stones. How to make him comfortable before vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 17 lbs

I just found out that my dog has kidney stones. I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow, what can I do for him to be comfortable (at least a bit), are there any home remedies apart from taking the vet’s treatment?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cointhee! Unfortunately the medications that he need to make him comfortable plus are safe need to be obtained from a veterinarian. Anything you may give at home may interfere with what your Vet may want to prescribe and might not be safe for animals. If you feel he is in extreme pain then I would call your Vet and see if they can prescribe something or see him sooner. Good luck!
