My newly adopted cat escaped after moving. How to catch her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bombay | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 4 lbs

I just adopted lily not so long ago and she immediately loved the attention. I had to travel with her to NJ from SC the next day. The day before and the moving day she did not eat and barely drank water, she was sleeping the whole ride there in her crate. When we finally got home I was trying to get her used to home but then later that night she disappeared on what I thought was a tiny hole by the window. I found her in the backyard but she won’t come when I call her or food. runs when try catch

If she won't let you catch her you can set up a humane trap (most animal shelters have ones you can rent) or a carrier and place some warmed up wet food or even some warm fried chicken in it. The smell is usually enough to entice the cat to enter the carrier/cage so that you can safely trap them. If she has been roaming around a new location, a checkup with your vet to make sure she is not injured or ill from the experience is also smart.
