How to stop my cat scratching a face sore and licking off ointment?

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old

My cat has a skin ulcer/rodent on his face..how do i get up to stop groom/scratching the area? I'm afraid if i don't but ointment it won't heal and when i do put the ointment he begins his groom session because he feels gross :(( i don't know what to doooo ahhh its so frustrating

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Leo. You will need to work with your veterinarian to try to determine the underlying cause of his skin disease. Allergies are a common cause. This can be an environmental, food or even a flea allergy. He may require medication to control the itching and allow the skin to heal as well. In the meantime, he may need an E-collar to prevent further self trauma. I hope this information helps!
