How to stop my cat scratching a face sore and licking off ointment?

Question

My cat has a skin ulcer/rodent on his face..how do i get up to stop groom/scratching the area? I'm afraid if i don't but ointment it won't heal and when i do put the ointment he begins his groom session because he feels gross :(( i don't know what to doooo ahhh its so frustrating. Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old
