Why does my male dog have a rash, swelling, and discharge near his penis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered

My male dog has a redish rash around where his penis is it is also swollen on that side and has like greenish discharge from his penis. He pees normal and is still acting his normal self. The only new thing is that hes licking his paw alot.. Im not sure what this is? Hes had it just for 1 day.. I think its a bug bite ive been rinsing the area with an antiseptic and appyling hydrocortisone 0.5% for dogs on his area..

This looks like a localised spot of skin infection which can be easily treated its antibiotic and antiinflammatory ointment on prescription from your veterinarian. The fact that he is licking his paw as well can be due to an allergy, which possibly can be considered in case infection is not resolved with treatment trial. I would recommend a check up at your local vet to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. Poor Drax. Its sounds like he may have some type of skin infection or even an allergy in his groin. You should place a cone on him to prevent him from licking and chewing as this will only cause more trauma. He will need to be seen by a veterinarian for skin testing and treatment with anti-inflammatories and/or antibiotics as needed.
