My dog has diarrhea, vomiting, can't keep food down. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 45 lbs

My dog has had diarrhea for the last 24 hours and poops roughly every 4 hours. She has thrown up twice. I cooked white rice and boiled chicken and she can’t even keep that down. She seems to be panting a little more than often. No worms in stool, but little tiny white dots. I’m not sure if that’s just the rice or something more serious. I am a teacher so going to the vet is quite pricey but I will take her if I need to. Thank you!

Considering the fact that you have already tried the dietary change and the signs are particularly persistent, I would recommend a check up as gastrointestinal inflammation-infection is possible at this stage and more investigations may be needed to determine more specifically the underlying cause. Antibiotics may be needed as well.
