My puppy licked his paw raw. How can I comfort him and stop licking?

Hi I have a question my puppy about 9 months started off licking ant licking his paw. He went on so much that he no longer had hair on an area on top of his paw. It looks like an open wound. We had been trying natural remedies but saw no improvements so I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow morning. I was wondering if there’s was anything you can suggest to comfort him. He does not fight when we touch it or had been putting things on it but he does continue to lick it.

Hi there. Poor coco. Great job that you have an appointment tomorrow am. For now, I would run to petco or Wal-Mart and grab an e-collar to keep him from licking. That is the most important part. You can lightly soak the area with a warm wash cloth for comfort, and then a cooler one. There aren't any medications unfortunately that we can recommend without seeing him. My guess based on these photos is that in addition to infection, he most likely has some underlying allergies causing him to lick his feet, so definitely discuss allergies with your veterinarian tomorrow. Good luck

Hello, poor Tobi he must be licking it. You can put a cone if you have on him so that he doesn't lick at it anymore until you can see your veterinarian so that they can prescribe him medications to treat the itchiness and secondary infections if needed. Those kind of signs occur because of food or environmental allergies, bacterial infections, yeast infections, or foreign material stuck between their toes. All of these require a veterinarian to examine and diagnose then treat as necessary. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about Banner. This is something you should take him into the vet for, as without seeing him in person, I can't diagnose what is causing this issue or what treatment is needed. I would take him into a vet on Monday. To keep him from licking it further, put an Ecollar on him. You can buy one at a pet store or make one at home. Best of luck! http://dogsaholic.com/care/homemade-dog-cone.html
