My kitten ate gift wrap. Is it dangerous if my cat eats paper or ribbon?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hey my kitten just ate a small piece of thin gift wrapping sheet. I tried my best to bring it out but it did not come out. Should i need to worry? Is it really dangerous?

It depends on how small you mean by "small," and what material it was. If it was paper gift wrap, that is unlikely to cause a problem because it will break down in the stomach. If it was gift ribbon of any kind, that is NOT digestible and can cause a problem, I'd be concerned if the piece were more than 1/2 inch to an inch in length. Watch him for vomiting, not wanting to eat, or for acting lethargic or painful. If you notice any of these signs, take him to your vet. If it gets to be 3-4 days since it occurred and you've seen no symptoms, you are in the clear. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
