Why is my dog's swollen paw sore bleeding and not healing after a year?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old

My dog has a sore on his paw, it's swollen a little, he keeps trying to lick /nibble it, I try and keep him from doing it, I keep cleaning it and applying cream but it doesn't seem to be working. He's had it for over a year now. It bleeds a little and looks sore

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If this sore has persisted and does not seem to be getting any better despite your efforts to manage it, I would recommend Ace see his veterinarian soon. Your veterinarian may take a small sample of the area to determine what it is and if it is concerning or not. Treatment will depend on what the diagnosis is. If your veterinarian suspects it is infected, Ace may need to be on antibiotics or other medications as needed. I hope this helps!
