Why is my old GSD's eye swollen, mouth painful, and head tilted?

Hi I have a female GSD around 11 years old and her right eyes is getting swollen and when she tries to bark she opens her mouth but her left side only n closes it back I guess it's hurting and when she drinks water too she is tilting her head to her left but she is not drinking water like how she use too....can I know what is the problem and does this require surgery?? Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 19 lbs

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Grace isn’t feeling well. Without seeing her it’s hard to say what’s going on but I would be suspicious of a tooth abscess or ear infection. I recommend taking Grace to a vet for a physical exam. If there is a bad tooth they will need to do surgery to remove it. If it’s an ear infection they will need to look at the debris under a microscope to get her the best medication to treat it. They can also send medications to help with pain, too. Good luck and kisses to Grace!
