Why is my old GSD's eye swollen, mouth painful, and head tilted?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 19 lbs

Hi I have a female GSD around 11 years old and her right eyes is getting swollen and when she tries to bark she opens her mouth but her left side only n closes it back I guess it's hurting and when she drinks water too she is tilting her head to her left but she is not drinking water like how she use too....can I know what is the problem and does this require surgery??

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Grace isn’t feeling well. Without seeing her it’s hard to say what’s going on but I would be suspicious of a tooth abscess or ear infection. I recommend taking Grace to a vet for a physical exam. If there is a bad tooth they will need to do surgery to remove it. If it’s an ear infection they will need to look at the debris under a microscope to get her the best medication to treat it. They can also send medications to help with pain, too. Good luck and kisses to Grace!
