My dog has green eye discharge, facial growths, and bad breath. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old

Im raising 2 English cockers in Japan. 1 dog has a poorly eye. Lots of green discharge and swollen on the outside, gets red in the bottom, often wet. One vet gave some Tarivid 0.3% but it's not healed. He also has a growth on his chin. He scratches it and there are other small growths on his face. My other dog is concerned about his eye and often tries to clean the discharge. Two days ago her breath became extremely foul. A different vet dismissed the eye problem and gave gel toothpaste. Help?

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor guy! if the discharge didn't resolve with an ocular antibiotic it likely isn't a bacterial conjunctivitis. I would recommend having your Vet test for dry eye and then treat for allergies. Since he is rubbing his chin he could have allergies to his environment. He may need an eye ointment with steroids in it and be put on a systemic antihistamine. Below is a link to one you can try. I would also recommend preventing your other dog from licking the eye as he could be contributing to an infection. The foul breath could be dental disease or from the type of food you feed. I wish you all the best! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/zyrtec/
