What do vets say about CBD for dogs, especially with other meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 7 years and 7 months old | 14.5 lbs

Hi I've been reading a lot on the Internet recently about CBD and it's benefits for dogs I'm curious about what vets think Jasmine takes 1/2 15mg phenobarbital daily not for seizures but shuffling behaviours almost tick like ( really difficult to explain ) and gabapentin 50mg 3 times daily she goes back to her vet for 6 month check next month so I'm just being a curious George as to whether it's worthwhile discussing with him

As it stands right now veterinarians are unable to prescribe CBD oil for their patients. There is some anecdotal evidence proving its efficacy but not enough research has been done to determine its safety and proper dosing. It never hurts to have an open discussion with your vet about new medications to try. However, I would say if Jasmine is doing well on her current therapy I may be hesitant to change it. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
