My puppy has low blood sugar. Can I use honey? How much & how?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 14 days old

I'm not near an out of hours vet, I fear my pup will die over night, I'm 99% she's suffering from low blood sugar. She has all the symptoms and has refused to suckle all day. I have honey at home, can I use it, if so how much and how do I give it her. I'm currently syringe feeding

Rub honey on her gums. There is no set amount, rather she needs as much honey as it takes to alleviate the signs of hypoglycemia and starts suckling, I would start with a rub, then wait 10 to 15 minutes, then rub in more, and keep it up until she feels better. Ring your vet office now. There should be emergency information on the answering machine or service. The RCVS dictates that vets provide emergency service either themselves or refer to one.
