My dog is limping and holding his leg up. What to do before vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Spitz | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 7 lbs

Norik is limping on a right front leg. Most of the times he holds his right leg up. I examined his right paw and there is nothing on it or inside, it seems like his joints bothering him.He is more comfortable on a soft surfaces like bed, couch. He even refused to walk outside which is his favorite. We scheduled to see a vet tomorrow. Is it anything you can advise in meantime? Compress, massage, anything that would keep him more comfortable? Thank you

Unfortunately I would suggest nothing else than complete rest and possibly cold packs applied for 10-15 minutes to decrease inflammation if present. A clinical examination and possibly further investigations would be required to determine more specifically the cause of it. Starve him for eight hours before vet’s check up in case x rays under sedation will be required.
