Why is my dog still scratching after a flea bath? Are fleas hiding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 3 months old | 7 lbs

I found a flea on Prince yesterday and I went to PetSmart picked up shampoo and bathe him, after his bath I combed through his hairs and looked but didn’t see the flea, I am 100% sure I saw one flea on him. Could it be possible it’s hiding? Because aside from me seeing it he’s been scratching and irritated more than he normally does. I threw out his beds and blankets, I plan on replacing his travel bag this week and get him new clothes as well. I’ll be spraying the furnitures frequently.

Yes, it is possible that Prince has more fleas and you just are not seeing them. Fleas are very fast and great at hiding. i recommend cleaning the house and environment. However, it is very important to apply topical or give oral flea prevention that last for 30 days long term. This will prevent the fleas from laying eggs and a large infection from happening.
