My cat is lethargic and won't eat. Is it pesticide poisoning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

Hi, my cat is acting lethargic and not eating, for the first time ever. He doesn't have any other symptoms. I sprayed some hotshot pesticide in the back room two days ago, and he has been in this state for about 16 hours. He responds postive to petting today. Yesterday he didn't want attention, also a first. Could he be poisoned?

I would recommend that you have Sampson examined by a vet as soon as possible. The vet may recommend that you call the pet poison helpline to determine if there is a toxic exposure to the Hotshot chemical. There can be many other causes of lethargy and poor appetite, such as kidney disease, diabetes, pancreatitis, etc. and the vet may need to start with some blood work or x-rays after they do the physical exam to determine what could be going on.
