Can sulfur baths cause stomach upset or diarrhea in cats and kittens?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 23 days old | 4.4 lbs

Hey. I gave my cat sulphur bath (yellow powder) as lime sulphur wasnt available and shes fungaly infected. The next day she was pooping alright but then after two washrooms her stomach got upset all of a sudden. Same thing happened with my kitten two days ago when i gave him sulpher bath (excluding mouth and eye areas). So can sulphur bath makes cats stomach upset?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Since cats are heavy groomers if the sulfur wasn't rinse off well and they ingested some then it could theoretically cause an upset stomach seen as diarrhea or vomiting or not eating. Is this a veterinary product? Be sure to only use topical products on cats that are APPROVED to be used on cats. Things safe for dogs and people are not always safe for cats. I wish you the best!
