My puppy pees often with an inverted vulva. Is it a UTI or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 15 days old | 16 lbs

We were told that my 11 week old lab puppy has an inverted vulva. We have only had her for one week and are in the process of house training so going to pee often is normal I guess. However, the last few days she has gone out every 20 minutes at least and pees about 3-4 times per trip (just small bits each time) and when she had an accident earlier I noticed her urine was very yellow. Is this indicative of a UTI or is frequent urination a normal puppy behavior?

Hi there. It's unusual for a female puppy to pee so many different times on each potty break, so I would definitely be concerned that she may have a UTI. An inverted vulva often predisposes dogs to this problem, unfortunately. If you can, I would recommend taking Zoe to an emergency clinic this evening or tomorrow, since UTIs are very uncomfortable. The veterinarian there can do a urinalysis to check for evidence of an infection, and will prescribe antibiotics to treat it if any problems are found.
