My dog has acid reflux and won't eat. Is it from shared antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 9 years and 11 months old | 20 lbs

Lately Trinket has been having acid reflux in the mornings before breakfast. His appetite has been off and hasn't been eating well. He's currently on antibiotics for a bad tooth. He has NOT seen a vet yet for the tooth problem or for the acid reflux and loss of appetite. The antibiotics were prescribed for my daughter's dog when she had some teeth pulled awhile back.

It is never recommend to give another animal's antibiotics. It's not specifically prescribed for them, and it could cause problems. Giving Trinket your other dog's antibiotics could be the reason why his appetite has been off and cause the acid reflux (GI upset). In addition, he won't be eating well because of this bad tooth. Please stop giving him the antibiotics, and take him into a vet as soon as possible to be treated. Best of luck.
