Is my puppy's belly big after milk replacer normal or concerning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 13 days old | 4.409 lbs

My puppy Cooper’s belly gets really big whenever i feed him with milk replacer but it returns to normal after an hour or so. Is this really normal when they are full or is this something that i should be worried about?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely normal but I would feed less formula at each feeding and increase the frequency or number of feedings. That way he is getting smaller amounts and his stomach won't get so distended. Be sure to contact your Vet for a deworming protocol soon. I also suggest weaning bottle fed puppies sooner due to the constipation or diarrhea affects of formula. Have a good day!
