My cat's urine is dark on cholangiohepatitis meds. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My cat is currently being treated for cholangeohepatitis with steroids and antibiotics. I noticed her urine was a dark color tonight. Do I need to make another vet appointment or is this normal for her condition?

Good evening. It must be hard seeing Relic sick. Although it can be normal for cats with cholangiohepatitis to have darker yellow to orangish urine, if this is a change for her since being prescribed her medications, it is probably best to consider a recheck. Some important things to consider on "how soon" to recheck is if Relic is eating and drinking on her own (preferably normal quantities) - if she is not, I would recommend a recheck within the next 24 hours if possible. Is she vomiting? If so, a recheck within the next 24 hours is also strongly advised. Here is some information that you may find useful about cholangitis/cholangiohepatitis in cats: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=1881 http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=1960 I hope this helps...
