Dog hurt, can't see vet: What human pain meds are safe for dogs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Coonhound - blue tick | Female | spayed | 30 lbs

Our dog was injured by a mountain lion. Is there any OTC human med we can give her to ease the immediate pain? We can't get to a vet, and will likely have to give stitches. Med dosage info as well please

Please clean and flush the wounds with warm water to prevent infection. Put pressure on them if they are bleeding. You can use aspirin for pain. There is a section on this website that has information and dosages for common over the counter medications. You may need a cone so she doesn’t lick the wounds. I do recommend a veterinary exam and treatment if you are able to find care. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Bo.

I’m sorry Sasha is in pain. There is a section on this website about human medications you can give your dog with the dosage, precautions etc. I recommend looking up the dosage and precautions for aspirin as that is what I would give her from the choices you have.
