Why is my leopard gecko stargazing? Could it be Enigma Syndrome?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi. I have a leopard gecko who is almost 3 years old who is my first reptile and has started to look up at the top of his tank for a few secconds. I only noticed it todaybut remembered it being called star gazing and reading about it being a symptom of something (while researching before buying him) I reseaeched it again today and foundout it was Enigma Syndrome. I know a bitabout it but need some help answeringquestions I couldn't find the answer to.

Enigma Syndrome is a genetic mutation of Enigma morph geckos. Symptoms can vary from mild and harmless occasional star gazing to severe circling or seizures. If Chip is not an enigma morph, then his symptoms likely are not due to Enigma Syndrome. Monitor him for worsening symptoms. he may be looking up in expectation of feeding or due to movement or sound. Ideally, he should be examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet to rule out any medical causes for his behavior.
