Why is my baby rat's eye half-closed with dark, dried discharge?

My rat is a baby, maybe 8 weeks now. He seems happy but he keeps half closing his eye and it's got dried eye stuff in front of it. It looks like dried porphyrin because it's dark. I've had him for 3 weeks and I've held him quite a bit. He really has nothing to be stressed about.

Although a picture of it could help to determine underlying cause more specifically, that is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
