My 3yr old pit bull randomly started having pain in a rear leg while jumping or climbing steps but wants just fine. She was playful then 30 mins later the pain started . Anyway to tell what it is without going to the vet ( I will if I have to)

I'm sorry Athena has been having pain. I see she is a large breed dog, and a common problem in large breed dogs is a cranial cruciate ligament rupture. This is a ligament in the knee, and it can happen suddenly causing pain during any movement. It could also be that she strained a ligament. Unfortunately there is no way to tell what is going on without having her seen by a vet, but you can try resting her first before going to the vet to see if that helps. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Good luck, I hope this helps!
