GSD with AF on Atopica: Should I give probiotics for GI health?

My GSD has been diagnosed with AF and has been on Atopica. She has responded really well and the vet is now slowly tapering the dosage down. Would probiotic and prebiotic supplements help, Many thanks, Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 4 years and 2 months old | 36 lbs

Poor Rosie! If you are talking about anal furunculosis then yes these supplements could helps. Some people believe that German shepherds that have AF may also have other GI issues. You could also put her on a multi-vitamin long term to help keep her immune system strong. Finally, I would make sure you all don’t quickly take her off atopica. I would make the tapering process VERY slow and monitor her closely. You may find that she can’t come off of it completely right now which is okay. She may just need more time on the medicine.
