My cat keeps heaving and hacking but nothing comes up. Is it asthma?

My cat keep heaving like he's trying to hack something up/vomit but nothing comes up. A month or two ago, his meows were very weak and light, they're usually heavy and strong, thankfully they're back now. I'm not sure if he's got a hairball problem or he has swallowed something and he's trying to get it up, he's been doing it everyday and I come out to comfort him, it's worrying me. He's a shorthair tabby cat. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

When nothing seems to be coming out, it's usually asthma, which is quite common in cat. you will have to bring him to your vet to have it confirmed, treatment will probably be needed in the form of steroids tablets.
