Will my cat be cold if house temperature drops to 18°C in winter?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 8.2 lbs

At home we have out thermostat for when we are home at 22.5° celcius, but when we leave or go to sleep it goes to ~18°C. Since we're in Canada and we have really cold winters will my cat be cold when the temperature in the house goes down to 18?

Great question! That is a fine temperature for Luna, and she should be comfortable. That is a temperature that is the lower end of the ideal temperature for a newborn baby's room, and since she have fur unlike a human baby, she will be just fine. If you are a bit concerned that she could be cold, you can get her a heated cat bed, or leave out some blankets for her to curl up in at night. She may even enjoy coming into your room to sleep with you at night! It's so lovely you are so concerned about her, and I hope this helps!

Great question! During the first three weeks of life, kittens are unable to regulate their body temperature, so temperatures less than 27C can lead to hypothermia if their mother does not keep them warm. Usually by seven weeks of age, they can control their body temperature as well as an adult. Given your kittens are just over three weeks, this still may be a little bit cold for them. I would keep the temperature in their room a bit higher until they are closer to seven weeks of age. I hope this helps!

It's probably unlikely that Duchess got sick from being in an air conditioned room unless the room was so cold that her immune system was suppressed. That being said, I appreciate your concern for Duchess! Ideally most cats would probably prefer temperatures between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes, an 8-week-old kitten can regulate his body temperature just fine :) He should be just fine at whatever temperature you normally keep your house - if it's comfortable for you, it will be fine for him also. Make sure that he has access to fresh water all the time. You can also provide access to a shaded area with a fan if you are concerned that he may get too hot - but generally speaking, cats prefer warmer temperatures than humans do, so this is rarely a problem.

What is the optimal temperature we should keep our home for our cat? My significant other worries he is too cold, and I worry he is too hot. :) We live in Florida, where temperatures are frequently in the 90s or above during summer and fall months. T
Cats tend to do well at similar temperatures as humans. I think leaving your house around 70-72F would be fine. A little warmer or colder also would not hurt. Cats tend to enjoy being warm so you may find him seeking out sunny spots in the house to sun bathe. He will move once he gets too warm. I hope this helps!

Hello. If the temperature in your spare room is too uncomfortable for you, then it is too hot for your cat. Room temperature of 68 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit are acceptable. If the room is hotter than that, your cat should not be in there. It would be better to move her to an area with better temperature regulation. Thank you

What can i do in this cold to stop her to caught a cold? She love to walk in the rooms... And the floors are so cold.... And she also drink normal temperature water... Which is also now much cold... If I put some warm water she drink a little bit...
The cold will not cause your kitten to become ill unless it is causing significant stress. In general, indoor dwellings are warm enough that this does not happen. You could lay out rugs on the floor so that she has an option to walk on a warmer surface. Placing a few beds around the house or even elevating the beds off the floor will also provide more protection. Cold water will generally not harm pets but it may be unpleasant to drink. Warming the water 2-3 times a day and then showing her the warmed water will give her the opportunity to drink it if she wants. Persians are very furry cats and she may even have hair between her toes which do provide some protection from the cold. I hope this helps and thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Most pets can tolerate temperatures that we ourselves can tolerate. As long as it is not greater than 90-95 degrees or lower than around 25-30 degrees, most pets will be ok. There is no concern if your house is around 73 degrees. Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco! Take care : )

Newborn kittens cannot regulate their body temperature, so the room they are kept in must be quite warm, between 88-92F. Keep them completely separate from the other cats, mother cats can be very protective of their kittens, and she may attack the other cats if they come to investigate the kittens. Best of luck.

Yes, you are right in thinking Luna could go into labor with this temperature drop. Monitor her, and if 24 hours have passed after this temperature drop with no sign of kittens, have her seen by a vet.

If it is cold for you, it is probably cold for her. Just make sure she has a way to get out of the cold by going into the garage or a warm spot outside. You could set up an insulated cat bed by cutting a hole in an ice chest (use google for other diy winter cat beds). You can also play with her throughout the day. Use various toys like a laser pointer, toys on a stick, feather toys, bell toys, etc. Playing in the snow is also a type of stimulation she may enjoy.
