My female dog is spotting. Is this a sign of heat or something else?

No, this isn't normal to spot before going into heat. Dogs typically go into heat every six months, but they can go into heat sooner than that. It could be that Jada is going into heat now, or she could have something more wrong with her such as vaginitis or a pyometra (a life threatening infection of the uterus). Because I can't see her in person to say what is going on, I do think a visit with the vet on Monday is best to make sure everything is ok. If you see other signs such as vomiting, anorexia, thick discharge from the vaginal area, a swollen abdomen, increased thirst, and/or lethargy (all signs of a pyometra), take her into vet immediately.
