When can my puppy get next shots & safely walk after vaccinations?

If my puppy was vaccinated at 6 weeks of age can she get her next needles as soon as she’s 8 weeks or wait a little longer? And how long after her second dose should we wait before taking her for a walk

Great questions! Vaccines should be given four weeks apart for them to be effective, so you need to wait until Skylar is 10 weeks of age before getting them again. Puppies are not fully vaccinated until they have three rounds of vaccines, so I would not be taking her for a walk after her second vaccines. You will have to wait until at least 10 days after her third series of vaccines is given at 14 weeks of age before it's safe to take her for a walk. While that does seem like a while away, until that time she will still be susceptible to contracting very deadly diseases such as parvovirus and distemper. You want to avoid that at all costs, so definitely wait until 10 days after the third series of vaccines is given before taking her for a walk. Good luck, I hope this helps!

The rabies vaccine cannot be given until 12 to 16 weeks of age, so he is not yet old enough to receive this. The other recommended vaccines would be to continue the Distemper-Parvo combination vaccination every 3 to 4 weeks until 16 to 18 weeks of age, and depending on your dog's lifestyle we would also consider a Leptosporosis and Bordetella vaccines. I would recommend making an appointment for Sky to visit the vet and they can discuss his lifestyle plans and determine which vaccines he will require.

Hello, yes you can take your puppy out for walks however, you increase the likelihood that he may become sick. Because he has been vaccinated it makes it less likely, however, you should consider only allowing your puppy around other pets whom you know are fully vaccinated. We are most concerned with diseases such as Parvovirus, distemper, influenza, and kennel cough. Continue to follow the recommended vaccine schedule for your puppy and be cautious about which other dogs come in contact with your puppy. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Most puppies will need a series of 3-4 combo vaccines along with any optional vaccines depending on you and your puppy's activities/the area you live in. A rabies vaccine is also needed around 6 months of age. Vaccines then need to be repeated every 1-3 years depending on your vet's vaccination protocol and type given. It is a good idea to schedule a wellness check with your vet to get June finished with her vaccines and any other needed treatments. Once her series of vaccines is done, she should be OK to go for walks with veterinary approval.

Hello. Just to be sure, please try to wait until Vino gets that last booster at 16 weeks of age. I agree 100% with your vet that the 6 week shot was very likely ineffective, so he does need the last vaccine to make sure he can fight off any disease he might come across. Better safe than sorry. Yes, that is correct is it a bad idea to be taking Lou for walks when he isn't fully vaccinated. Parvovirus is a very contagious disease and can live in the environment, so he could potentially contract that just on these walks. Contact with vaccinated dogs is fine, but you need to be absolutely sure they are fully vaccinated or he risks getting deadly diseases like parvo and distemper. It is never recommended to take a young puppy who isn't fully vaccinated out for walks, and I would stop that practice immediately. He will be fully vaccinated about 10 days after his third lot of vaccines. Wait until then before taking him out on walks. I hope this helps!

If they just had their vaccinations today I would wait another couple of days before starting to gradually take them out. They should have already have a strong immunity to infectious diseases with all the boosters received sofar. If you wish, you could also call your vet, just to make sure he is happy as well, as vaccination protocols and vet preferences can vary from one vet clinic to another.

I recommend to wait until after the second set of vaccines (although he still will not be fully protected). If you back yard is fenced in, inaccessible to stray dogs/wild canids, and no dog who survived parvo has been in your back yard for the past 2 years, it should be fine to take him there to play. How long do we wait to expose our puppy to other dogs/people after he gets his booster shots?
Vaccines take a little while to take full effect as the immune system must recognise and then produce protection against the specific illnesses vaccinated against. As the final booster is a top up to earlier injections, I usually recommend 5-7days before walking in parks/open places and preferably 10-14 days before boarding/kennelling in puppies. Annual/boosters in older adults do not require such a wait unless they had lapsed significantly

As long as your puppy stays current on his [vaccination series](https://www.petcoach.co/article/vaccination-recommendations-for-puppies-puppy-shots) (boosters every 3-4 weeks until at least 16 weeks of age), he can certainly go on walks in your neighborhood. In fact, it's very important to get him out and about at this age since the critical [socialization](https://www.petcoach.co/article/socialization-of-your-puppy) period for dogs last from 6 to 16 weeks of age - so he needs to be out seeing the world, the sooner the better. I would recommend avoiding [dog parks](https://www.petcoach.co/article/dog-parks-fun-and-games) and other busy areas where large numbers of unknown dogs have been, but it should be fine to walk him in quieter areas.
