My ferret escaped, lost weight. How can I help it regain energy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 0.4 lbs

Ferret escaped 5 days. Neighbor found in their basement. High weight loss. No energy. Want to do vitamin supplements. Eats and poops and urinates. Not bouncy and punky like other two.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm glad you have been reunited with Tweet! It is likely that she has not eaten in several days - I recommend giving her high protein food (you can try small amounts of canned cat food or moistened ferret kibble) in multiple small meals throughout the day. I commonly recommend a product called Ferretone, which has high vitamins and calories, which may help Tweet regain nutrients quicker. You should keep a close eye on her over the next several days, especially because she may have eaten something she should not have while she was missing. I hope all is well and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!
