My 2-year-old pitbull is lazy but has energy bursts. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 75 lbs

I'm worried something might be wrong with my new pitbull. He's around 2 years old and weighs about 75 lbs. Most of the time he is extremely lazy, doesn't run outside much at all. Mostly just goes to the bathroom and then lays outside for awhile. Sometimes he will get short bursts of energy and he'll Sprint a few laps around the house but that's pretty much it. Is this behavior normal or is it something I should look into? Thank you so much.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. From your description, there are no concerning symptoms I am worried about. This could be behavioral. Some dogs are more active than others and this may be normal for Chance. If you want to play it safe, you could consider having his blood tested to make sure that there are no abnormalities that need to be addressed. Otherwise, this is likely his normal behavior. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions and I would be happy to help you further.
