Why are my large dogs dying fast with no vomiting or diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female

I have a few large dogs and live next to my brother who also has large dogs. A few weeks ago he had 2 dogs get and went to the hospital but were put down. They were not being able to get up or would eat. They did not have vomiting or diarrhea. Then I had a dog pass and currently have one in the hospital now. They are dying fast. On the other side of me is several farm animals and they come up to our fence line. Can you tell me what this sounds like??

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this problem! Unfortunately, it's really not possible to know what's causing this without more information, since acting lethargic and not eating are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of illness. If any of the dogs have had lab work, x-rays, or other testing done, it would be helpful to know what the results were in order to give some possibilities. For a definitive diagnosis, the best option would be to have an autopsy (called a necropsy in animals) performed on one of the dogs who passed away.
