My dog has raw skin, red bumps, and breathing hard. Is it allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 3 years and 10 months old | 75 lbs

My dog has raw & bleeding spots around on side of his face and chin. There are also red bumps on the same side of his lip area and whiskers. He hasn’t scratched them open. He recently has had many ticks (not engorged) despite using K9 Advantix and was sprayed with Adams Spray for pets yesterday. He is also breathing a little harder than normal

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. From the pictures and your description, it sounds as though Mitt may be having an allergic reaction. I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him as he may require a steroid injection along with an antihistamine injection to be treated. If left untreated, allergic reactions can become much more severe. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
