Why did my outdoor cat vomit blood after eating prey and new food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 5 lbs

I have a cat who mostly lives outdoors. Today I fed my cat with whiskas dry cat food for the first time. I had been feeding him home cooked food till now. Since he is an outdoor cat he also eats prey like birds. But today he vomitted the prey he had eaten. I fed him whiskas in the morning but he vomitted at night since he ate a bird in the evening. There was blood in the vomit. I cannot figure out if its the blood of the prey he'd eaten or if its his own. Should I stop giving him whiskas?

I doubt the whiskas is the issue here, it's more likely due to the pray or something else he ingested, blood in the vomit is a very serious symptom, if it happens again i would strongly recommend bringing him to a vet to get treatment.
