Hi there, my 2.5 year old syrian hamster has quite flaky skin, like he has dandruff or something. Hes old, but he weighs a good 142 grams like he has done for years now, and hes active at night. Should i take him to the vet because of this? Its doesnt look too red or irritated, just dry. Thanks!

This presentation could be caused by a mite infestation or possibly a skin allergy. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
