My parrotlet has a scarred beak and clicks. Is it a health concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 24 days old

When my p’let ocke was very young an older hatchling bit his beak and left a big scar across it. He eats/drinks fine but I’m curious if it’s possible that this will cause further problems when he is older. He does sort of click his beak together even when he’s not eating or drinking.

If the beak is intact and attached firmly to the head, there is likely no cause for concern. Some birds will click or grind their beaks when they are settling down for the night or if they are comfortable. You can monitor for decreased appetite, weight loss or lethargy. These symptoms would indicate illness or injury. An exam with your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet would be recommended if Ocke develops any of these symptoms.
