New puppy after parvo loss: How to care and safely toilet train?

My puppy is 37 days old .... And she is going to receive deworming medicine tonight,at 45 day she will receive parvo vaccine...i have lost a pup a month ago due to parvo...how to take care of my new pup..? When is it safe to start toilet training? Am gonna train her to use our toilet...is it safe ..? I have a fully vaccinated 5 years old dog who also use our toilet..

Parvo virus is transmitted from the feces/vomit of one infected dog directly to another (it can survive in the soiled environment for over 12months if not adequately cleaned and disinfected with bleach). She should be isolated from any areas where she may have contact with non-vaccinated dogs or their feces until after her second parvo vaccination but your own house (or enclosed garden) should be relatively safe as long as any accidents from your previous pup have been removed and bleached/steamed

You can do it at anytime now. Remember than vaccination is essential for parvovirus prevention and treatment against gastrointestinal worms will not treat or prevent parvovirus at all. I'm sorry to hear that you lost your dog to parvo. Parvovirus is very resistant and can live in the environment for up to a year despite attempts to properly disinfect the premises. Personally, I would not even consider taking another puppy/dog into that area for at least 6-8 months and that would only be after I have disinfected everything a couple of times and only brought a fully vaccinated puppy home. Fully vaccinated means that the puppy has had 3 sets of parvo vaccines at 3-4 week intervals starting at 8 weeks of age and ending at 4 months of age. Hello. I am sorry about your puppy. Parvo-virus unfortunately is very good at surviving in the environment. I would recommend cleaning all surfaces of your house very well with a bleach solution to start with, and washing down with bleach any outdoor patios or gravel areas. Grass areas can be watered profusely, however parvo is able to survive freezing and over-wintering. In terms of getting another puppy, I would get a puppy that had a vaccinated mom, and a puppy that has a complete set of vaccines (has had all three vaccines, and at appropriate timing). Getting an older dog isn't a bad idea, just make sure that all vaccines were proper, as older dogs can get parvo-virus too if not vaccinated. Also, make sure you keep up to date with your new dog's vaccines especially in the first 5 years or so of life. Good luck with your next dog, and I am sorry about your previous puppy.

It sounds like you've done a good job disinfecting your home - if the new pup is finished with her vaccinations, the risk should be minimal. To be safe, you could certainly try and keep her in the areas of your home where your previous puppy never spent time or used the bathroom. But from what you've said here, it seems unlikely that Kiki would get sick - the parvo vaccine is usually very effective, so most cases that I see are in unvaccinated pups.

How long does it take for the parvovirus to become unactive in a back yard after having a dog that died from parvo?
Sadly parvo virus is resilient in the environment and can live for years. Where ever your previous puppy went to the bathroom is where it is most concentrated. If it is a hard surface such as concrete, you can bleach the area to kill the virus. In soil and grassy areas, it is impossible to get rid of it completely. If you get a new puppy, get them vaccinated every 2-3 weeks and keep them indoors to protect them. After 3-4 sets of vaccines, they should be protected enough to start going outside.

No that will not be safe enough for the puppy. Even if that dog wasn't in your room, you could have brought the virus into your room on your shoes and clothes. Your entire home needs to be thoroughly disinfected before getting another dog. I recommend getting a puppy around 4 months of age who has all their vaccines to prevent them from getting parvo.

No one can guarantee you that the new puppies will not get parvo. Unfortunately, parvo is very hardy and will live in the environment for a long time. It is difficult to to kill. Unless you used bleach then you probably didn't kill the virus. Honestly, if you had posted before you got the new puppies we would have told you not to do it. We would have recommended that you not bring any dogs into the household until they have been fully vaccinated at the appropriate intervals - so that would be a minimum of a 16 week old puppy. Locking your puppies in the crate for months is cruel in my opinion and not recommended. Black and tan dogs do seem to be more susceptible to parvo than others, but any young dog can get parvo. It is an aggressive virus that lives in the environment for a very long time. Bleach was surfaces you can to get rid of it. The main problem is the outside environment as it soaks In the soil and you cannot treat that. Parvo is spread through fecal/oral route. anywhere your last puppy went to the bathroom, is where the virus is most concentrated at. Waiting 2 months does not help eliminate the virus. It can affect older dogs but the disease is often not as severe due to their immune system. Vaccines in puppies can be started at 6 weeks of age and boostered every 2-3 weeks until 4 months of age. If you get a puppy closer to 9-10 weeks this would be safer as it will already have 2 sets of vaccines to help protect him in case it comes in contact with it. make sure you keep the new puppy away from the areas where the last puppy was until 4 months of age when the vaccines are c

I'm sorry to hear about this. You will need to speak with your vet about when to start vaccines. They will chose the date based upon her recovery. Also, parvo will live in the environment for 1-2 years. That means you cannot have any more puppies or unvaccinated dogs in your area or else they could become infected. Have the mother spayed to avoid this from happening again. I have a survived gs from parvo who is still at hospital recovering, he lives with my adult pom dog at home. How to avoid contamination at house and how to split them since i live with my big family and there is a little control ?
You should ensure all other in contact dogs are fully up to date with parvo vaccination boosters to reduce the risk of cross infection. All accidents (especially faeces/vomiting/diarrhea) should be disinfected with bleach and cleaned up immediately. I would recommend partitioning off individual rooms and yard spaces if possible or crating one/both dogs for the first 2-3weeks

Within few days of receiving pups 1 & 2, 1 died of parvo &2 became ill but recovered. 2 weeks after getting pups 3 & 4, 3 became ill and the day after she came back from the vet, pup 4 was suddenly ill with parvo. All of our pups have now been sick&
Parvovirus lives in the soil for a minimum of 5 to 7 years, and young puppies are very susceptible. In the future I would recommend not bringing home puppies less than 5 or 6 months and fully vaccinated as your house and yard are contaminated. Ideally the mother dog would have also been vaccinated to assist in the pups immunity. If pups are weaned early then they also need to start vaccinations early.
