Why is my dog's ear scabbed, bleeding, and losing fur after a lump?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Husky | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 4 months old

My dog used to have a lump under her right ear & with a google search I assumed it was just calcium build up. Well now the bump is gone but her fur is gone too & skin is all’s scabbed & bleeding. I’m really worried. We got a cone so she’d stop scratching it but what is even going on? She freaks out when we go near it so it’s hard to get a good picture

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can possibly be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar is useful as well to avoid any scratching (as you have used).
