My dog's skin tag is bleeding and black. Is it serious before vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 8 years and 10 months old | 65 lbs

My dog had a skin tag on his chest that has been there for about 2 years and is the size of a Brussel sprout. Over the last 2 days, a small pea-sized area of it has become black/blue, come to a head , and started bleeding...is this cause for immediate concern? I can't get into the vet until next week.

It may be that the mass has been injured or become infected. I would recommend to wash it with antibacterial soap daily and you can apply a topical antibiotic. I would still recommend to get Roscoe to the vet as early as you can. The doctor may recommend to have the mass removed and tested. Please post again with any future questions and I hope this helps!
