My dog was in heat. Can another dog make her go into heat again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 43 lbs

So Bella went into heat around Christmas New Years time . We recently have been staying at my fiancé’s moms til our new appt is done and they also have an unspayed female, who just went into heat yesterday. Can this make bella go back on her period ? My boyfriend is worried that it will because she’s scheduled to be spayed and idk if they can spay her while on her period . But I’m not sure if that’s how things work!

Hello. In general, dogs will come into heat every 6 months. Another in heat dog will not induce your dog to come back into heat, or estrus, but do have her spayed as soon as possible. Not all dogs follow the rules so she could come into heat a little earlier than expected. And dogs can be spayed when in heat. It is a little more dangerous in terms of bleeding, & so vets often charge a little more to spay a dog in heat. So Bella should not come back into heat until late May or June.
