My Yorkie has a red spot bleeding under her belly skin. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 12 lbs

I have a female Yorkie and just took her outside after coming in I notice this red blood spot on her belly it looks like it’s under the skin like it’s bleeding under the skin. I don’t know if it’s a busted blood vessel or what. There’s no bite and the skin is not raised it’s smooth what could this be and is it dangerous or will she be ok? She acts normal and ok like it doesn’t bother her either. Thanks! TaKesha

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. From the picture, this appears to be a petecchiation or ecchymotic hemorrhage. This is typically a sign of a bleeding disorder. It could be from trauma to a superficial blood vessel. I would have a veterinarian take a look at Sassy to be on the safe side and to have her blood tested to make sure her blood is normal. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
