My Pomeranian has swollen, lumpy eyelids; why can't vets diagnose it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 9 lbs

My 2 year old male Pomeranian has been suffering with sore swollen eyelids which started as small lumps. He has been on antibiotics but it has only continued to worsen. Today he is starting with steroids but the vet doesn’t know what it is. Possibly having a biopsy soon. Just wondered if any experienced vets recognised the condition at all? Thank you.

Thank you for submitting your question. I can concerned that Teddy had an autoimmune disease that is affecting his eyelids. This is when the body attacks its own skin cells. He could alao have a severe allergy. Even if the underlying cause is something different, a skin biopsy is warranted to give you a definitive diagnosis. If possible, do the biopsy prior to starting the steroids (but it sounds like he may have started already). I hope this information helps you and Teddy!
