My dog ate cooked chicken bones. Should I worry if he seems normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 60 lbs

Our 1 year old lab mix ate 5-6 cooked chicken wing bones last night. His stool today has been normal. No blood, no vomiting. He acts normal and doesn’t seem uncomfortable. He has an appetite and drinks water. I fed him 3 slices and bread and some kibble. Does this mean he’ll be ok?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In general, if there hasn’t been a problem for 48 hours, you’re in the clear. Continue feeding Indy as usual. If there is some diarrhea but Indy is still eating and playing and active, im still not terribly concerned. But if vomiting starts or you’re seeing lethargy or loss of appetite, it’s time to head in to the vet as soon as possible. Hope this helps and best of luck to you and Indy!
