How to calm my puppy who hates ear drops for his ear infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 months old | 14.4 lbs

My puppy has an ear infection and my vet prescribed an antiseptic flush and ear drops for him. For the first couple days, he was calm about it. The past 3 days he has cried, yelped, and barked. I’ve offered him treats and toys as a distraction but he continuously squirms in my arms. He is fine with the flush, but hates the drops. How can I get him to calm down?

I wonder if he is having a reaction to the medication? It Shouldn’t bother him, and if it does I’m worried. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian soon. I have had a handful of patients over the years have reactions to ear medications and they seem so painful! Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
