Cat kidney failure: Can my cat recover after delayed treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 months and 12 days old | 12 lbs

My cat was just diagnosed with acute renal failure. He is 8 months old. Symptoms have been going on for 7 days. However, treatment was just started yesterday because the vet suspected a stomach bug when the symptoms started. I’m just wondering if 6 days without treatment is to long to expect a recovery?

It really depends on the cause of the renal failure and the damage done. It's definitely possible that he can recover after not being treated for this long, but I'm afraid I can't be more specific than that with fully knowing his case. Your veterinarian would be better able to answer this question, because they would know the most about Echo's specific case. I hope that helps and he gets better soon.
