My new puppy barely drinks or pees. Is her umbilical hernia normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 21 days old | 15 lbs

Hi we just got Remi sat afternoon and for some reason she doesn't drink alot and she doesn't pee alot. Is that normal? We are also puppy sitting a 7 week old German shepherd pup and he potties and drinks alot. Comparing them to each other it's weird and worrying me. I have also noticed that she has a hernied embellacal lump on her belly also. She is eating normal and very very playful and full of energy. Her gums are normal color so she is hydrated. So should I be worried?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Remi is adorable! Puppies generally drink and urinate more than older dogs, so it is normal for the puppy to be more active in that regard than Remi. Umbilical hernias are pretty common in dogs, but should be evaluated by a veterinarian to ensure that they are not harming the intestines. The hernia can also be repaired at the time of Remi's spay. I wish you and Remi all the best am happy to answer any other questions you may have!
