My dog hasn't urinated or defecated in 24 hours. I'm concerned.

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 6 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

Slinky has not urinated or defecated since sometime during the night Sunday night/Monday morning. We're very concerned. He ate and drank(water) around 5pm this evening. He seems to have more energy after eating. Stays indoors always. Was licking his Anus quite a bit over the weekend, not as much today. What should we do?

Hello. Not urinating for a day is a little bit more worrisome than not having a bowel movement, but if he eating & drinking, I am not too concerned. Are you having a bad weather in your area? This can certainly keep a pet from its normal elimination schedule. If Slinky is doing well otherwise, then just give him another day. If anything changes, appetite goes off, vomiting begins, please see your veterinarian. Hopefully, all will be well soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
