Why would a mother cat kill her kittens after moving them outside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I found a mother cat with her 3 newborn kittens trying to nest inside my house .so i moved the kittens outside the house when the mother was away .when the mother returned she looked for them and found them at the corner of the street where i left them . About a 10 minutes later i went to check on them and i found two of the kittens wounded and dead .did the mother kill them ? And if so why ?

Yes, it may have been the mother cat if she felt the kittens were unsafe or may have been another neighborhood cat defending their own territory. If there are remaining kittens please contact your local humane society and they may be able to offer a foster home and also neuter the mother to prevent future unwanted kittens
